Help Kenoby, You're his Only Hope

Donation protected
Let me introduce to you one of the goofiest puppies I have ever met, Kenoby! Kenoby is a 10 month old Border Collie mix and I adopted him from the Will County Humane Society on September 5th, 2015. The WCHS goes to a high kill shelter when they have an open kennel and collects the animals from the "kill room" that day, Kenoby was one of them. He had blistered, swollen feet, but he was safe and rescued from death.

Once adopted, he formed into our family seamlessly! He's the sweetest boy in the world, incredibly friendly, and steals the hearts of everyone he meets. He had been to the vet before adoption and was given a clean bill of health other than his paws, as well as saw the vet after adoption for more vaccinations and care. He was given a clean bill of health a second time as well; though, we made note of how wiggly his hips were. It wasn't until he started to show real signs of pain that we truly knew something was wrong.

On Sunday, November 15th, after a day at the park, he could hardly stand and once he laid down, he couldn't get back up. I took him to the vet immediately Monday morning where they sedated him and took X-rays, as well as pulled and tugged on his hips. It wasn't hard for them to determine it was stage 4 out of 4 Hip Dysplasia. There are two options with his current situations:

1. Do nothing. He would live his life on pain medication and have to keep to low activity, then possibly have issues down the road as his constant rubbing bones cause arthritis. He could need a hip replacement or other surgeries later on in life.

2. Triple Pelvic Osteotomy. This surgery is known to be very expensive, but has an extremely high success rate where puppies diagnosed with hip dysplasia usually have no further issues with it throughout the rest of their lives.

The choice was easy, but the cost was not. He needs both hips done, as well as overnight stays at the vet and a whole lot of pain medication. This comes to over $9,000. We can't afford that, especially right now. Our little fur family is in the ending processes of buying a home, having already put a lot of money into inspectors and lawyers to close, meaning we are far too deep to simply back out now.

Kenoby loves to run, play fetch, chase his sister around, swim, and all around have fun. He has very high energy, so a life of low activity is impossible for him. His surgery is scheduled for tomorrow, November 18th, at 11am. With his condition, it simply couldn't be put off any longer because the more time that passes, the more damage is caused. He is in excruciating pain with each step he takes. I consider all my "pets" as children, so seeing my son in so much agony is absolutely heartbreaking.

We are asking for your help in paying for Kenoby's expensive surgery so he can give a long and happy life! Any little bit would help and we would truly appreciate each cent given, especially Kenoby. All the money will go toward his surgery, as well as the post op care he will recieve. We will have a few short weeks to raise the money and pay off the medical bills, so seriously whatever you can give is very much needed. He’s just a puppy, a baby, and he severely needs this surgery! Please help us fix our baby boy! **We paid for the first hip ($4,668) out of pocket and we are now tapped out and he still has to get the left hip done in 2-4 weeks!
