In The Name of Love: for Ahav and Kelli Lewis
Donation protected
We are Maleke O'Ney (M.O.M.) and Monyea Crawford, friends of Kelli Lewis. We have jumped in to help her administrate the outpouring of love that is coming as a result of the article in The Washington Post. Kelli simply wanted to tell her story to raise awareness and understanding for herself and families like hers. The immediacy of the offers of support were overwhelming so we are at the helm of this so she is able to continue to focus on Ahav and Analiel. Monyea will be advising and working closely with Kelli so that the contributions are used in the most efficient manner. Thank you for hearing her story...for connecting through your humanity...thank you for being here in the name of LOVE!
“My 11 year old son has a psychiatric diagnosis and he's in crisis. He's heavily combative, but he does not have any weapons." These are words Kelli learned to use when communicating to 911 dispatchers about a Black, young man who might look out of control.
What to do about Ahav? It was a question that for Kelli had become consuming in this year of a pandemic and growing racial unrest.
How would she get help for a boy who is Black and mentally ill and already vulnerable to some of the worst disparities in the U.S. health-care system even before the pandemic made things worse.
