14 years ago right after our son Bradley was born my wife Julie was diagnosed with RA (Rheumatoid Arthritis) and has been dealing with this disease and the pain from it ever since. She continues to have her good days along with her bad days, but never seems to complain. We have three wonderful children (14 yr./old son and two daughters 12 & 8) that are well aware of their mother’s disease and how she struggles with RA daily. I’ve wanted to do something for a long-time in regards to being active and making people aware of this debilitating autoimmune disease called Rheumatoid Arthritis, that affects thousands of people daily. It is very frustrating to watch my wife struggle with this disease, as well as so many others with some form of arthritis. Julie is now on her 6th biologic medication (along with many others) and now has a five-hour infusion once every six months followed by another one two weeks later. This latest medication Rituxan seems to be working well for Julie (knock on wood).
The way I plan on raising money this coming year for the Arthritis Foundation is by competing in a series of running/swimming events. I enjoy being active and figured that this would be a great way to raise money for a tremendous cause. I have chosen four events:
The Huntington Beach Surf Rider 1/2- Marathon Run
2/5/17
Seal Beach Rough Water 1-mile Swim
July 2017
Huntington Beach Pier Swim
July 2017
Alcatraz Swim (cold and rough + NO Wetsuit
September 2017
I will keep everyone informed on each and every event as I try and raise money throughout the year for the Arthritis Foundation. I truly feel blessed to have this opportunity to contribute to this cause and help fund an excellent foundation. My wife Julie is so compassionate, strong, caring, but tends to shy away from asking for help from anyone. This is not only for her, but also for the thousands of other people with various types of Arthritis conditions that are affected each and everyday.
ALL the money that is raised will go directly to the Arthritis Foundation for research.
Lets pray for a cure!

It’s Not Your Grandma's Arthritis
Rheumatoid Arthritis (RA) is the result of an autoimmune system gone awry. In RA, the immune system mistakenly attacks the joints causing pain and inflammation. If left untreated, this inflammation can cause joint erosion and permanent damage. It may also affect the internal organs. ("Living With RA | RA Arthritis | RA Help | RA Tips," n.d.)
