Hola, mi nombre es Anthony y estoy empezando esta recaudación para mi amigo Fernando Clark, deja que te cuente su historia:
¿Has experimentado alguna vez un sueño con la sensación de no poder sentir y mover tu cuerpo? Aunque sabes que es solo un sueño, lo sientes tan real. Pues para mí no es un sueño, ahora es mi realidad porque el 17 de junio de 2018 dejé de sentir mis piernas. Déjame contarte mi historia…
La noche del 17 de junio, estaba saliendo con unos amigos, tomamos un par de cervezas, así que decidí tomar un Uber para regresar a casa. Desafortunadamente, un conductor ebrio golpeó el Uber en el que estábamos viajando por detrás. A raíz del accidente estuve en la Unidad de Cuidados Intensivos del hospital durante 90 días, con una lesión medular en la c5.
Los médicos me dijeron que no iba a poder mover mi cuerpo del cuello hacia abajo. Salí del hospital con una cuadriplejía total, que me dejó en cama alrededor de un año.
Durante estos 2 años y medio que han pasado, con mucho esfuerzo de mi familia y amigos, me han ayudado a adaptar mi hogar, con nuevos equipos y accesorios que necesitaba para mi nuevo estilo de vida y rehabilitación. También necesito ayuda las 24 horas del día, los 7 días de la semana para realizar muchas de mis actividades y quehaceres diarios.
He estado haciendo fisioterapia no solo para mantener sino también para mejorar mi cuerpo, con la esperanza de poder caminar y ganar más independencia cada día. Ahora puedo mover mi torso (sin equilibrio), brazos, cuello y manos (aunque no puedo usar mis dedos, mis manos están apretadas). Estoy aprendiendo a sostenerme por mi cuenta y a dar algunos pasos con la ayuda de KAFO... pero todavía hay mucho trabajo por hacer.
Mi esperanza para este fondo es recaudar suficiente dinero para seguir una terapia con células madre y cubrir otros gastos relacionados con mi rehabilitación, este tratamiento estimulará la regeneración y reparación de mi médula espinal. Después de investigar durante varios meses y hablar con diferentes médicos y pacientes, apliqué al Stem Cell Institute en la ciudad de Panamá (puedes ver más abajo el enlace de su página web).
Casi 3 años después de mi accidente, fui aceptado en este tratamiento para comenzar en julio de 2021. Probablemente necesitaré al menos 2-3 rondas de infusión de células madre por vía intratecal e intravenosa para lograr resultados favorables en la movilidad y sensibilidad en mi cuerpo.
Este tratamiento como muchos otros no está cubierto por ningún seguro en el mundo y los ahorros de mi vida no son suficientes. Aunque este es un tratamiento nuevo, tengo fe en que me dará la oportunidad de recuperarme de mi lesión en la médula espinal, ganar más independencia y sentirme un poco más cerca de la vida que tenía antes de mi accidente.
No me voy a rendir.

Have you ever experienced a dream with the sensation of not being able to feel and move your body? and even though you know it's only a dream you feel it so real. Well for me it’s not a dream, it is now my reality because on June 17 of 2018, I stopped feeling my legs. Let me tell you my story.
The night of June 17, I was hanging out with some friends, we had a couple of beers, so I decided to take an Uber for the ride back home. Unfortunately, not everyone is as responsible, and a drunk driver hit the Uber we were riding from behind. As a result of the crash, I was in the Intensive Care Unit at the hospital for 90 days, going through several ups and downs, due to different complications like Prostatitis and Endocarditis. The doctors told me I wasn’t going to be able to move my body from my neck down. I left the hospital with a total quadriplegia, which left me in bed for around a year. I was 29 years old at that time and was determined that was not going to be the final diagnosis for me.
During these 2 and a half years that have gone by, with a lot of effort from my family and friends, they’ve helped me adapt my home, with new equipment and accessories I needed for my new lifestyle and rehabilitation. I also need assistance 24/7 to do a lot of my daily activities and chores, since this injury not only affects my mobility, but also my ability to regulate temperature, it gives me some nerve pains and neuropathies, spasms and affects my bladder function.
I have been doing physical therapy not only to maintain but also to improve my body, hoping to be able to walk and gain more independence every day. Now I can move my torso (without balance), arms, neck and hands (even though I can’t use my fingers, my hands are clenched). I am learning to stand on my own and taking some steps with the help of KAFO’s…but there is still a lot of work to be done.
My hopes for this fund are to raise enough money to pursue a stem cell therapy and cover other expenses related to my rehabilitation, this treatment will stimulate my spinal cord regeneration and repair.
After researching for several months and talking to different doctors and patients, I applied to the Stem Cell Institute in Panama City (you can see down below the link of their webpage). Almost 3 years later after my accident, I was accepted in this treatment to start on July 2021. I will probably need at least 2-3 rounds of stem cell infusion via intrathecal and intravenous administration to achieve favorable results in the mobility and sensitivity on my body. This treatment as many others is not covered by any insurance in the world and my life savings are not enough.
Even though this is a new treatment I have faith that this will give me the opportunity to recover from my spinal cord injury, gain more independence and feel a bit closer to the life I had before my accident. As you can imagine the cost is extremely high, taking into account 24/7 assistance, the stem cell treatment and trip accommodation expenses, physical therapy, medicines, doctors and more. I strongly hope I have the chance to regain my body mobility and walk again, since my progress during this time has already surpassed any forecast.
I am not giving up; I am fighting this injury!
