HELP FAYE WITH CANCER TREATMENT!

Donation protected
My name is Jarred and my wife is currently receiving chemotherapy for her ovarian cancer.

She is my hero!

Faye has been unwell since January 2016 and for many months and doctors had no idea what was wrong with her. It got to the point where Faye felt like a hypochondriac and was pushing herself to the extremes to get on with life as the doctors kept telling her there was nothing wrong.

My wife is one of the most intuitive people you will meet and knew instinctively that something was wrong, so despite the doubt she received from doctors, she persisted in finding out what was wrong with her.

Doctors eventually found what they thought was a 3cm benign cyst on her ovary in March. She was initially told to leave it and to monitor it and it should disappear in good time.

She grew increasingly unwell and fatigued to the point that she was bed ridden for weeks at a time.

2016 for Faye has been a constant wave of feeling sick and fatigued and trying to battle on with daily life being told time and time again that there was nothing wrong with her.

In August, routine blood tests discovered cancer markers in her blood and finally doctors took her seriously and commenced further scans.

The cyst attached to her ovary had grown from 3 centimeters to 12 centimeters in less than 5 months, which explained why she felt constantly sick. To give you an idea for size, it was like having a grapefruit attached to her ovary.

Finally, taking her seriously, Faye was rushed for emergency surgery forcing her to put her business on hold to focus on her recovery.

Surgery went well and after a week in hospital Faye was back home and excited about getting back into her beloved floristry and all the upcoming wedding she had booked.

Less than a week later, in the middle of a meeting she received a phone call that no-one ever wants to receive.

On the other end of the phone was a lady from the Cancer Clinic who explained that Faye had been referred to her by her doctors.

You can imagine how shocking that phone call was, her doctor hadn't told her and as far as Faye was aware her sickness was behind her. It’s certainly one of the most horrible ways to find out that you have cancer.

As her husband, I remember walking into the room and seeing Faye in tears, I knew straight away the type of call that she had just received. I will never forget the feeling; everything in the world became blurry except for the news and it was so difficult to process anything else after that.

We knew in that moment that life was going to change dramatically.

Doctors had discovered Faye’s “benign cyst” was actually a tumour that contained an aggressive form of rare ovarian cancer known as a Teratoma.

Aggressive rounds of chemotherapy were prescribed immediately and then came the task of dealing with this diagnosis and wondering how to take care of the many tasks and business duties that Faye takes care of in life.

As a sole trader wedding florist, this meant finding staff to cover her weddings and going through IVF to preserve fertility before chemotherapy could begin.

Faye has now started her treatment and is proving how strong she really is.

But with the costs of IVF, hospital visits, treatment we have experienced an incredible strain on our finances.

Which leads me to why I am here, for those of you who know me, you’ll know that I will never ask for help, however, for my wife, I need to raise funds to cover the cost associated with her ongoing and unexpected treatment.

Anything would help us on this journey.

Financial stress on the top of supporting Faye fighting this cowardly illness has its challenges.

It would make such a difference to our life.

We are hopeful for the future and we are sure that Faye is going to kick cancer's butt.

We want to thank everyone for your support. Firstly, our families who have been a great source of strength for Faye and myself, the entire well wishes we have received from friends near and far, everyone who is bringing us yummy food and the beautiful nurses at the Royal Brisbane (6AS) who are all so special to us.

We also decided that if there are any remaining funds at the end of her treatment, we’d like to donate them toward ovarian cancer research.

From what we have learned, funding toward this research is truly helping all patients being treated and leading to huge advancements in the wellbeing of anyone having to go through chemotherapy.
