Hi everyone! I am a queer Muslim woman and a senior in college majoring in Global Studies (Human Rights and Justice in Africa) and minoring in Social Justice.
I am setting up this GFM because I’ve been struggling to pay my tuition due to COVID putting me out of work, and now, I am not able to register for my last semester nor receive my degree until I pay off my debt at my university. As you can see in the photo above, I am in $10.1K worth of debt. I am a first-generation college student, and have been self-reliant since the day I left my home. It feels so discouraging to know that I’ve made it this far and this close just for money to become a significant obstacle yet again.
My plans after graduation are to move out of Minneapolis to attend law school, but during these uncertain times, I don’t know if I will be able to even afford another semester. I’ve tried emailing the financial aid office, appealing my FAFSA for more aid, and nothing has been successful. It was very hard for me to build the courage to make this GFM, but that is how important this is to me.
I want to be an immigration lawyer one day, and I don’t want my financial hardships to get in the way of that. I plan on using the funds to pay off my debt at my university. Any extra funds will go towards my next and final semester (Spring 2021) and my post-grad plans (application fees, LSAT exam fees, etc). This is an urgent request; I need to have this debt paid before my last set of classes (required to complete my degree) fill up, and registration opened up on 11/10.
Anything helps, and whether or not you are able to donate, PLEASE RESHARE AND POST THIS ON ALL YOUR SOCIAL MEDIA – I cannot stress how helpful that is. Lastly, thank you all in advance for reading this and helping me chase my dreams; IT MEANS A LOT!
