When we opened our doors 4 years ago, the dream for Emmits Place was to provide a welcoming venue with a great sounding room for musicians and music lovers alike; a place with great music and a downhome atmosphere in the Willowbend community- an area of town where Emmit Goodwin, our namesake, used to love to dance to live blues and zydeco music.
The venue has managed to stay afloat, and even grow, for almost 4 years now with a large piece of the budget going to the many wonderful musicians who have graced its stage. We believe that staying true to this dream has allowed us to grow as we have over the past few years, and we are honored to be a part of the great music scene that we have here in Houston.
We would love to continue providing a home for Houstons great artists, as well as the music lovers who come out to hear them, however, we have hit a crossroads. The "Big 3" have swooped in, and are requiring immediate payments for more than we can afford at this time. BMI, SESAC, and ASCAP are charging more than an entire months expenses. And although some charges have been put on installment, too much has been taken from the current budget for us to afford the required license renewal due in May. Unfortunately, without this license renewal, we will be forced to close our doors.
We are asking for a litte help from our friends to keep the Emmits Place dream alive. Our hope is to make it through this temporary setback with your help so that we can continue to grow into a venue that the Houston area music scene can be proud of.
Thank you in advance, and we hope to see you at the next show!
