On Sunday March 22nd, Drew Moesel got into a paragliding accident on Mount Jumbo which resulted in him breaking his back in numerous places. Drew is also suffering from lung contusions, which are bruises on the lungs due to chest trauma. The Missoula fire department was able to hike Mount Jumbo and carry Drew off in a stretcher in time to take him to St Patrick’s hospital for immediate medical attention. Drew spent a total of 5 days in the hospital, all of which he had to spend alone in quarantine due to the growing implications of the Covid-19 virus. The wonderful doctors at St Patrick’s Hospital stated that Drew is lucky to be alive and that if his broken bones were a millimeter and a half to the right, he would be paralyzed from the waist down. He is anticipating a full recovery but expects several months of mandatory bed rest, doctor appointments and physical therapy visits. The hospital bills are estimated to be around $30,000 before insurance. Due to the severity of his injuries, Drew will be on bed rest and unable to work for 3-4 months at the minimum. We need Drew to focus on his road to recovery and not have to worry about medical expenses during this time. If you know Drew, he is always the first one to make you smile or laugh even on the darkest of days. He’s had a very rough year full of losses, but he’s still somehow managed to keep a positive attitude throughout all of this. If you are able to send some love his way during this challenging time, he would be forever thankful.
