Donna lost some fingers, can you lend a hand?
Donation protected
Hi everyone,
I created this campaign in support of my mom, Donna, who is facing some tough times after suffering from a truly traumatic accident. Her Injuries have put her out of work for an extended period of time. This has created an overwhelming financial burden as medical costs and life expenses pile up. The disability compensation is lower than her usual income, which would typically include additional overtime hours. My family could have never prepared for an event like this to happen, and we are so extremely grateful for all of the help and kind words that we have received thus far. It has put a smile on my moms face to know that she is cared for by so many. The outpouring of support inspired us to create this gofundme. We hope that reaching out to the greater community will provide my mom with the help she needs, as well as a sense of encouragement as she focuses on recovering and moving forward.
“Tough times never last but tough people do “

On May 6, my mom’s life was changed in a matter of seconds...
A traumatic accident with a lawn mower took 3 of her fingers, and fractured several bones on her right hand/fingers. She lost the majority of her middle and ring fingers, and up to the first knuckle on her index finger. She was immediately transported to Capital Health Trauma Center in Trenton. They treated her for the excruciating pain and managed her wounds the best they could. She needed emergency surgery as soon as possible to try and reattach her fingers, but the chances of it being a success were unknown at the time.
Capital health began making arrangements for the procedure immediately. They assured her that they would try everything in their power to save them, but were not confident. The goal at this point was to try and restore as much function in her hand as possible. The complexity of the surgery required a highly skilled and specialized surgeon, and Capital Health did not have the resources available at the time. She was then airlifted by medflight to the Tauma Center at Cooper University Hospital in Camden, NJ. The surgeon was called in and met us on-site shortly after she arrived. After a 6 hour procedure, they were unable to save any of her fingers.

This was devastating to my mother. Her mind immediately went to thoughts of panic. My mom is the strongest person I know, but recovery is not going to be easy. She will need to adapt to many significant life changes. She works as a unit coordinator in our local hospital, and she loves her job. Her duties rely on the use of her hands, specifically her dominant right hand, as she performs many administrative task. When she is able to return to work, there will be a big learning curve that she will need to overcome. Her hobbies all revolve around the use of her hand as well. We have horses, and they are her passion. Her first thoughts were centered around her future with them. It pains my family and I to see her struggle with fear. We want to help make her recovery as smooth as possible, and the financial burden is setting her back emotionally and physically.
Anyone who knows my mother, can attest to her incredible strength and resillence to overcome adversity. She is a fighter, a go-getter, and one of the hardest working people I know. As a single mother, she raised four kids, one who had severe handicaps and disabilities. He later passed, and Is now her guardian angel. No matter what the day brings, good or bad, she always maintains a positive outlook and is never without a smile, lifting the energy around her. We can't let this accident dim her light--any support will mean more than you know!!
