Help Doni Stay

Donation protected
My name is Ms. Winberg, and I am Doni's 5th grade teacher. Doni came to us half way through the school year and her journey to us wasn't easy...

Here is her new sister's story:
Hi, my name is Maraki Abera and about four months I was blessed with a new little sister.  Her name is Tselot Fetene (Doni for short), and she is from Ethiopia.  She is a spunky, fun ten year old who has the kindest heart you will ever meet.  She is also incredibly smart and has made huge improvements since arriving in America.  I know the longer she stays the more improvements she will make.

Here is a little about her background.  Doni's father passed away when she was a baby and her real mother could no longer take care of her; therefore, she was sent to America to stay with relatives.  She was passed from household to household- the east coast to the west coast and eventually landed in Las Vegas where she has been treated like a slave. This beautiful girl was unwanted and plans were being made to send her back to Ethiopia. The unthinkable will happen if she is sent back. She will be married off upon arrival at the age of 11 years old.

My incredible mother heard about Doni’s situation and her heart ached; she knew she had to do something to help save her - - so she came home to our family and told us Doni’s story. As a family, we all agreed to take her in.  I have to tell you that since she has been with us, my heart has been full.  She is the sister I never had and the sister that I now love.  I am begging you for help.

Just so you know, our family gladly pays for all of her clothes, medical expenses, and food (we receive no government help).   We just need help raising the money for expensive court costs.  These costs will pay for her Green Card, and eventually her citizenship.  These two things cost seven thousand dollars.  If you are willing, we humbly ask you to help my sister stay with us.  She is an amazing girl who works hard and kindness blooms from her soul.  Truly, we have so much love to share with her and want her to stay with us as my forever sister.

The picture you see is of Doni and her teacher, Ms. Winberg.  Ms. Winberg and the supportive team of fifth grade teachers want to keep her here with us. That is why they decided to set up this page.  They know Doni.  They know of her sweet soul.  They have seen her contagious smile, and the kindness that she spreads.  Thank you for listening and for your donations.  Please help me keep my new sister here in our home – a forever home – one filled with love – enough love to share with Doni.

As one of her fifth grade teachers, myself and the rest of our team cannot fathom the possibility of Doni being sent back to Ethiopia to be married off. Please help us to keep her here with her new family that loves her so that she may have a brighter future.
