Our colleague Deana Bynum, DNP, MSN, FNP-BC (HJD Department of Anesthesiology) suffered great tragedy this past week.
Early Monday morning at 1am, a fire broke out in her home in Brooklyn. She was home with her 4 children at the time of when the fire started in her 2 year old son Chase’s room. She and her other three children were able to escape but even with the help of neighbors, they were unable to get to Chase. Chase had been ultimately rescued by the Fire Department and taken to the hospital in critical condition. He has remained in the Burn Unit at Staten Island University Hospital intubated while his lungs can heal from smoke inhalation and has received wound care for burns to his legs. Every day there is hope that Chase is making medical improvements.
Unfortunately, Deana and her family have lost everything within their home. Today, tomorrow, days and weeks to come will be difficult for Deana and her family. Any contribution to their family would be greatly appreciated and most importantly, your thoughts and prayers.
