My name is Bryce Riekkola and I am starting a surprise fund for my close friend Corinne Lovett who is in desperate need of help. Corinne has been a critical care nurse for over 20 years in some of the best hopsitals in the country and finally decided to settle down in Oregon with her husband 3 years ago. For over a year now she has been battling a rare infection in her arm that originated from a bug bite while camping in Central Oregon. The infection has caused her to have over 10 surgeries and at one point even being admitted to the ICU with sepsis at OHSU in Portland. Now this in itself is terrible, but also given the fact that Corinne has been working as a RN with only one leg for over 20 years makes her situation especially hard. Just when she thought she beat the infection her husband abandoned her with anything of value and during the process she tripped and fell and the infection returned with a vengeance. Now her current situation is such that she is self administering antibiotics 24/7, surgeons are washing out her wound weekly trying to save her arm, and she has no money for rent, gas, utilities, bills, and medical bills piling up!
Corinne has dedicated her life and career to helping those in need. From the beginning Corinne lost her leg while propelling down a mountain to save a skier as a search and rescue responder when her rope sheared off and she fell over 50 feet. Corinne spent over 6 months in the hospital and instead of having pity on herself and being a victim she finished nursing school against all odds and started working at NYU as an ER Nurse. Corinne worked at NYU for over 10 years and was there on September 11, 2001 helping the victims of the terrorist attack. After loosing many close friends including fire fighters in the attack she began traveling the country. She spent another 10 years working in some of the best hospitals in the country as a NICU, PICU, and ICU nurse. When she wasn't working she was traveling to third world countries as part of a team of medical professionals performing cleft repair and other surgeries on children in need. Both of Corinne's parents were county sheriffs in a small Vermont town and she was the only girl out of 6 children. Her fathered was killed in the line of duty and ever since Corinne took it upon herself to support her aging mother when no one else would. Corinne opened up her home to me for 5 months when I had to move my family away from my place of employment and was commuting for 6-day stretches. Ever since I was blesssed to call her a friend she has proven to be the most giving, dedicated, caring and selfless person I know.
