While at work on February 3rd Carla Duffy, a beloved mother of 8 children, wife, grandmother, sister, aunt, teacher, and friend had a significant stroke and is now paralyzed on her left side. She will need physical therapy, speech therapy, and occupational therapy for quite some time to work on regaining feeling, strength, balance, and functional movement.
Carla initially retired from her position as a Middle School PE teacher in 2012 but due to some unexpected tragic events and needing to help a couple of their children financially, Carla went back to work after retirement. Carla and her husband, Bill, have been primary and secondary school teachers in public schools for the past 32 years to support their children. Carla, the hard worker she is, not only worked full time as an educator, took care of the kids, but also earned her masters degree in Education while juggling all of her roles.
Carla will not be able to return to work for quite a while, if at all. Bill will also have to quit the additional work he had been doing, so he can help Carla with the rehabilitation process and initially as a full time caregiver. Due to the high cost of health care and for the cost of the rehab facility we as friends and family are reaching out to our community to help with the expenses insurance will not cover.
Carla has given so very much to her family and the community, which she loves. Any bit you can do will help to decrease their financial stresses, so Bill and Carla can focus on Carla’s recovery. Let's work together so she can hold her new granddaughter that was born the day before her stroke. Thank you for your continued prayers and support through this time!
Love,
