Help Butch Weems recover
Donation protected
On August 18th, Butch went into Princeton Hospital for what was supposed to be a simple procedure to have a couple of polyps removed. One week later on the 27th, he ended up with a raging infection, resulting in a large chunk of his colon being cut out, a open wound on his torso and a colostomy bag. If that wasn't bad enough, on the 29th he was rushed to the operating room to have his right leg amputated due to a blockage that occurred cutting off his circulation and leaving his leg cold with no pulse.
We almost lost him during that surgery. He remained on a ventilator for 4 days and in the ICU for another 4 days. He was moved to a regular room on the floor for further recovery for the next 7 days. He was released to Lakeshore Rehabilitation for some much needed therapy and to teach him how to care for himself.
Upon arrival at Lakeshore, it was discovered that he had a massive bedsore that did not even register on the wound charts. Butch remained at Lakeshore for 2 weeks before his insurance company decided that it was time that he go home. He was not at all ready to go.
Upon arriving at home, his friends had built him a ramp and was helping me with taking care of him. I could not remain with him because I have 2 small children that needed me at home.
Things really went downhill from there. After he was home for just a couple days, I received the call from his neighbor that something was not right and definately needed someone to come be with him. A family friend was on the way to sit with him for the day, and called me and said something was not right with him. I had just talked to him the day before and thought he was just tired but really was not too alarmed. It was immediately decided that he would be going back to the hospital and NOT Princeton, I had him taken to St. Vincent's.
His bedsore was so infected, that it smelled like death. it was later determined that he was septic and the infection was in his bones and moving down his leg at a rapid rate. He was taken into surgery to clean it out and has since had an additional 2 surgeries to continue with the clean out and now has a wound vac to continue to drain out infection.
They have since moved him out of the ICU and into a regular room and are working on discharging him. He is in need of long term care from a skilled facility, however his insurance will not pay for that and because he has not worked for 3 months, he has very little money left.
I can not afford to pay to have him stay there, it could be up to $1500 a month out of pocket to get him the help he needs to recover.
If you can donate to help towards Butch's recovery any amount would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you,
Sheena
