Bulgaria Medical Mission

On June 6th, I will be participating in a one week humanitarian service mission in Bulgaria. I’ll be working together with One Heart Bulgaria, a non-denominational, 501C3 non-profit organization that helps meet the needs of children living in 22 orphanages and two children's hospitals in Bulgaria. Bulgarian orphanages are full with children who suffer from neurological, developmental, and orthopedic disabilities, like cerebral palsy and hydrocephalus. When these children go untreated, they end up living out their lives in cribs on feeding tubes like the little boy in the picture. One Heart Bulgaria's goal is to help these children get the care they need!
During our week in Bulgaria, we will be delivering much needed medical supplies, toys, therapy equipment, and hygiene items to the orphanages and children's hospitals. We will also interact with and play with the children.
We will have two teams on this trip. One team will be made up of surgeons & therapists who will examine children and teach Bulgarian therapists, orphanage workers, & doctors better medical & rehabilitative procedures. They will also teach them how to feed the children better to help prevent malnutrition and disease.
I will be on the second team with a group of teenage volunteers who will be painting murals on the walls of two children's hospitals and one very large orphanage. The goal is to create a more fun and uplifting atmosphere for the children in the place of grey, cement walls. I am also collecting supplies in my home town and trying to raise $1,500 to purchase medical supplies, basic supplies, and some painting supplies in Bulgaria, where they can be purchased for cheaper.
If you would like to help me with this amazing humanitarian project, donation money towards supplies that can be bought in Bulgaria is greatly needed and appreciated. The many donations will go towards the Bulgarian orphans.

bar soap, shampoo, toothpaste, diapers, 3 standing frame devices to help children stand, 3 wedge therapy matts for therapy exercises, and 1 Rifton Pacer gait trainer for walking.
