Ashley: As I sit here alone I wanted to take a moment to reflect on my thoughts and feelings concerning the past 24 hours. I want to remind everyone to appreciate each moment in our lives because in an instance our lives can quickly be turned upside down for better or for worse. As a mother of children with life threatening food allergies and asthma, I face this reality and fear daily. I am so thankful that my boys are safe. Yesterday, I received a missed call and then a text message from a medic using Brants phone to contact me to tell me that he was in an accident and being transported to the nearest hospital. For those of you who don't know, brant rides a motorcycle. This has always been another fear of mine. I rushed the boys and I to the hospital without knowing the condition we were about to face. My boys tried to hold back tears as we approached him in the trama center laying flat with a neck brace and cords galore. I could never thank my dear friend Candice for caring for my boys so I could stay by brants side. We are beyond grateful that he is alive and going to be OK. He was hit by a car on the freeway who fled the scene and left him laying in the freeway with a broken hip and broken femur. He is currently in surgery for that. He also has lower spine fractures and we currently do not know the extent of those injuries. I was told that he was thrown over 20 feet off of his bike. I am thankful for the women who used her car to block brant from being ran over. I am thankful to the nurse and emt who stopped to start treating him. Most of all, I am grateful that my children still have their father. I wish more than anything that I could have a family member near. I have so many thoughts and worries for the recovery. I know that I will be okay but I also be okay. Please, don't drive distracted and look twice .. Thank God Brand was wearing a helmet and protective jacket. I truly believe that it saved his life. Here is a picture from a family picnic we had together just the day before.
