Beno's journey has been longer and more difficult than anyone could have anticipated. From having to wait 10 years for help, to his spine becoming so severe that he needed 3 surgeries in 6 days.

Then there were the three weeks in the ICU and multiple weeks in the hospital.

The true miracle is that, through each step along this journey, Beno continues to fight. He wants to be strong, tall, and able to walk on his own. And he brings his magical smile to each person he meets.

But he has a long way to go before he has "recovered". He will be in the US for at least one more month, then because of his ongoing complex medical needs, fly back to Tanzania, where he will need constant medical care for his first year home. This includes both medical care and supplies, supplies that are not easily accessible in Tanzania.

We can't do this alone. Beno can't do this alone.

• Shoes, multiple pairs of shoes - he can't feel his feet, which puts him at risk for a cut.

This cut could lead to an infection, something he CAN'T have this soon after surgery

• Medication - He takes two medicines every day

• Catheters - lots of them and they aren't available in Tanzania

• Sterilization Machine -to clean his medical supplies

• Battery Pack - Beno doesn't have electricity at home. His family can leave to charge the battery and he will run his medical equipment at home off this battery

• Bedframe and Mattress - with all the hardware in his spine, Beno can no longer sleep on the floor. He needs a bed when he returns home

• Waterproof watch - so he can take his medication on schedule

• Food - his nutrition is crucial to be able to fight infection and continue healing

• School - one that can cater to his specific physical and educational needs
