Kingsley is the first grandchild to the family.Shortly after Kingsley was born, Bruce unfortunately had to return home and Beatriz after that.2015 came in with a bang as we were able to welcome our second angel Sebastian. Sebastian was born in August of 2015. Beatriz was able to return and help us take care of our now two little ones as times were extremely difficult as Claduia and I had to continue to work.It was in December of 2015 Beatriz had asked about a bump on her leg that she wasn't too sure about and thought we may want to get it checked out.Now I would like to take this time to introduce one of the most incredible women I have had the oppertunity to meet.Beatriz Barrios-Urquizo grew up in La, Paz Bolivia, South AmericaShe is the amazing wife to Jorge BruceMother to Claudiaand Dr Bruce UrquizoBeatriz has been living in the United States with us since 2014 devoting her time to helping raise her grandchildren and take care of Claudia and I.So back to December of 2015, Beatriz had the bump looked at in Santa Cruz while she was visiting home. It was then that she discovered this bump was an advanced stage of Melanoma Cancer.Because Beatriz was only visiting and had all of her personal belongings still in America it was decided amongst the family that she would return to the US start treatments here.Once back home with Claudia and I we began making calls to Salt Lake City area hospitals and Cancer Treatment centers to see where to begin. We were met with many roadblocks as Beatriz, Although in the United States legally, was not a citizen and has no US medical insurance. Every organization we contacted greeted us with a shut door and unwillingness to help.Then one day we were able to meet with a Doctor from Intermountain Health Center (IHC) and she helped us get in through the hospital. Beatriz recieved her initial appointment and CT scans.We learned that this Melanoma had already spread from her foot up to the lymphnodes into her groin area. Suregery was going to be required, followed by local radiation treatments. We had no idea how we were going to come up with the costs associated with surgery and then on, but Dr. Tawnya Bowles was able to help get things moving for us and Beatriz's surgery was scheduled in January.Once she finished radiation treatments in April and with the help of theUtah/American Cancer society, Claudia and I decided with the many more treatements to come and need for hospital visits and medical care, It would be better to relocate to a city that could provide these services. Also having two growing babies, the idea of having available doctors and hospitals readily available was a good idea.  I accepted a job offer in Las Vegas, Nevada as did Claudia, We packed up our family and movedLittle did we know that we would no longer be eligble for any financial assistance through IHC and that there was going to be no assistance whatsoever in Clark County, we came to a major road block and all of Beatriz's treatements stopped. At the same time of this notification, we were informed that the cancer had now moved up to her lungs and she was in Stage 4.We began making calls and contacts with everyone we knew and people we had already talked to within IHC and ACS to try and conitnue these treatments. Then one day our prayers were answered, We spoke with a LCS at IHC who was able to figure out a solution to the problem we had and we would be able to recieve our first infusion treatment after recieving a CT Scan to see what had taken place over the past two months of no treatments.Once the results of this scan came back, we learned that of course, the cancer had spread more into the lungs. Since this time, we have been required to make many more trips to Salt Lake City, Utah and have required additional treatments that are not covered by IHC's Financial Assistance (FA) such as doctors care and perscription medications, travel and lodging expenses for treatment dates, and the time off work to transport Beatriz to and from her appointments.Beatriz is currently undergoing an infusion treatment called Keytruda (This medication alone is$13,000 ) which requires her to be seen by a doctor from Utah Cancer Specialist ($250 per visit, without CT Scan - not covered by FA) and done prior to infusion date. The infusion is done at Intermountain Medical Center in Salt Lake City, Utah, This requires travel expenses including gas, food, and lodging for up to three days at a time.Currently Beatriz is scheduled to have treatments every 21 days in Salt Lake. With a total of 8 already scheduled at this point with CT scans scheduled after three months each. Treatements will continue based on what CT Scans show, and overall feeling.In September of 2016, we noticed that Beatriz was begining to become more and more confused and unable to maintain balance. We rushed her into the ER to find out what was going on in fear of her having a possible stroke. The doctors immediately ran a MRI and discovered she had a 2.5cm Tumor growing inside her brain.Beatriz was scheduled for surgery the same day. After spending almost a week in the Neuro ICU and Hospital, Beatriz was to be released and was required to stay in the Salt Lake area for another two weeks.This Financial strain has been felt through the entire family. Both Claudia and I have had to take many days off work to meet the needs of Beatriz's schedule. With the time off work, has brought stress and heart ache as the finances have not allowed for some bills to be paid and sent to collections.~~ So Whats going to happen with your donation? ~~Your donation today will be used for the immediate and direct care that Beatriz is in need of. Things it will cover; Treatement costs, Doctors fees, Transportation to and from Hospital and doctors visits, Lodging expenses, and perscriptions. We as a family have done everything we can and have tried to stick together to make all of this happen, but now we are just running out of options and need some help. As many of you that know us, this family does not like to ask for help, but we are in a time of need.
