Help Baby Mario Manage Diabetes
Donation protected
Mario is happy little boy from Sofia, Bulgaria.
On July 18th, 2017 - the night before Mario's first birthday party, his parents Katia and Ogie, noticed a drastic change in his energy level. Mario appeared lethargic and would refuse to walk or play.
His concerned parents took him for medical evaluation and sadly, three days later baby Mario was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes. He spent 10 days in the intense care unit fighting for his life. Thankfully, the doctors were able to stabilize him for the time being and bring him back to a coherent state.
However, the fight is not nearly over for little baby Mario. Because he is very little, it is difficult to stabilize his blood sugar levels. For the last three months, Mario has been flip-flopping between hypoglycemia and hyperglycemia. These fluctuations are extremely dangerous because they can cause serious damage to multitude of Mario's vital organs - from his brain to his liver, kidneys - just to name a few.
The problem is that although the pump is available at the market, its cost is astronomical for the average Bulgarian family. At 7,000 Bulgarian levs (or about $4,300) this life-saving equipment is out of reach for Mario's parents. Sadly, health insurance or the state do not offer any assistance in cost relief either.
Furthermore, Mario's ongoing monthly medical expences amount to 700 levs (senosrs, tubes, needles etc) putting the family in an impossible financial position.
To make matters even harder, Mario's mother currently is 8 months pregnant and the only breadwinner of the family. His father, Ogie, had to quit his job to watch over his son, whose volatile condition requires 24 hour supervision.
We desperately hope to be able to raise enough funds by this Christmas to give Mario the best gift, an insulin pump, the gift of happy and healthy life.
If you are willing and able please consider helping. Any little bit helps! We will be forever grateful for your generosity.
On behalf of all of us, his family and friends, thank you so much for your consideration and generosity.
