Help a Teacher Facing Cancer

Lisa Evans has spent over 35 years as a teacher for thousands of young people, giving of herself to future generations.

Over her career she has taught in schools in:

Seoul South Korea
Benson, Arizona
Desert Hot Springs, California
Quito, Ecuador
Guayaquil, Ecuador
Las Vegas, Nevada

But years of deteriorating health has physically torn her down. Diabetes, kidney, eye and bladder diseases and developing complications have left her permanently in a wheel chair. Her problems were complicated by issues with her health insurance. Because she spent eight years teaching outside of the USA she was not eligible for disability or subsidized health insurance in the US, so when her last employment’s health coverage expired, Lisa and her husband Richard were forced to cash in their retirement funds to cover three years of her expensive health treatments.

She is now covered by Medicare and Medicaid, but this does not cover all needs or expenses. Lisa’s and Richard’s retirement and savings are gone and their medical bills have put them tens of thousands of dollars in debt.

Now the latest blow has hit. A cancerous mass the size of a softball has been found near her cervix. She faces weeks of daily radiation sessions and chemotherapy just as a starting point. Her Medicare and Medicaid does not cover all of her expenses, and family resources to cover the extra costs are exhausted.

In particular transportation is an issue as she cannot be transported in normal vehicles – her present condition requires special powered wheelchair capable medical transport - for at least six weeks of daily radiation therapy and is only partially covered by insurance. Additionally, copays for medications will mount up during the course of chemotherapy as well as months of follow up treatment.

We are reaching out to our thousands of family, friends and the many souls that Lisa has touched during the course of her teaching career. We have an initial goal of $12,400 to help pay for her uncovered transportation, treatments and medicine costs for the course of her radiation treatments.

If you can help – please do.

We are asking for a standard donation of $20. More is fantastic, but anything helps. $10, $5, even just $1.

Please send what you can – well wishes, prayers and money, whatever is in your heart to spare. Literally anything will help to keep her up physically as well as spiritually.

And please share this plea.

God bless you, and God bless Lisa.
