A little help, goes a long ways

I made this account in efforts to help my sister and her family out. Amy is a single mother of 2 amazing children, Austin (18) and Abigail (20 months). What I'm hoping for here is, we all can get together and help her out as much as we can. She has been in the hospital with my nephew for over 3 weeks and us family members have been helping take care of our niece.

Here's what has happened...
Austin graduated High School last month and had plans of going to college this fall semester.

Who would have know all that would change in just a few short weeks? Almost 3 weeks ago,  Austin was feeling pretty crappy. He went to Urgent Care, as well as Mankato ER 2 days in a row looking for some type of answer as to what was going on with him. All he was told was he probably had some type of flu/cold and it would eventually go away. 5 days later, his "sickness" had progressively gotten worse and my sister (his mom) took him to Mankato ER again, Austin was barely able to walk or move, he could not move his right arm or leg. Once being admitted to the hospital, after doing lots of tests, my sister was told he would be admitted to ICU and that he was in critical condition. A few hours later, Austin was being airlifted to Minneapolis Children's Hospital and admitted to the ICU.

After many blood draws, MRI's and many other tests, the results that came back were heartbreaking. Austin has a severe infection in his entire body. His kidneys are shutting down, his liver has doubles in size and his heart and lungs are filled with infection. The MRI also showed he had a big mass of infection in his neck, that was compressing against his spinal cord in which was preventing him from moving his right side. Austin was intubated due to the infection in his heart making it difficult for him to breathe.

He had surgery on his neck to remove the mass and a few holes drilled into his vertebrae to clear the infection. Although Austin is now able to breathe on his own, he is still very weak, still has infection in his heart and is receiving blood transfusions due to this infection. He will be needing to have open heart surgery to replace the pulmonary valve that he just got replaced a few years ago, due to the infection in his heart. We are hoping once this surgery happens, the antibiotics that he's been on, will help clear this infection once and for all!!

Please keep Austin in your prayers!! He has a long road of recovery ahead of him still. After his surgery, he will be able to come home with a PICC line, that will allow his mom to administer medications for the next 6-8 weeks. Along with having to go through rehabilitation,  that will help him regain his strength with walking and in his arms. If you can help monetarily it would be greatly appreciated and helpful!
