Current Status (February 2026):
Surgery has been completed. While an ostomy was part of the original surgical plan, it could not be performed due to a lack of viable bowel at the time of surgery. I am currently recovering from major abdominal surgery and receiving nutrition via TPN while my body heals. Recovery is ongoing, and funds raised continue to support medical care, supplies, and basic living expenses during this period.
Hi, my name is Adria Moses. I’m a yoga teacher, writer, birth doula, and community builder in Detroit. My work centers on creating trauma-informed spaces where people feel safe, connected, and empowered.
I’ve seen firsthand how community care can sustain us, and now I’m asking my community to walk with me through a major health journey.
Why I Need Support
In January, I will undergo major surgery to remove part of my small intestine. This operation is medically necessary to prevent another emergency like the one I faced in 2013.
The recovery process is expected to last at least six months. During this time, I won’t be able to work and will need stable housing, reliable transportation to appointments, and consistent help with daily tasks to avoid infection and complications.
Your support will help cover:
- Rent & Utilities — keeping a safe home during recovery
- Transportation — rides to and from hospital and therapy appointments
- Home Setup — medical recliner, therapy light, and organized supply storage
- Nutrition — groceries and SBS-friendly meal delivery
- Therapy & Mobility — physical therapy, strength, and recovery support
- Daily Essentials — caregiving help, laundry, cleaning, and rides
I’ve set a goal of $30,000 — enough to cover six months of safe recovery and stability.

My Medical Story & Why This Time is Different
I’ve lived with Crohn’s disease since I was 12 years old. At 19, I faced an emergency surgery with no warning or support. In one day, part of my small intestine was removed, I was placed on life support, and I spent two months in the hospital. Recovery was beyond brutal: I couldn’t work, lost my car, and filed for bankruptcy by 21. I never want to go through recovery that way again.
Now, I need another surgery, this time before it becomes a life-threatening situation. The operation will result in Short Bowel Syndrome, a rare condition where the body can’t absorb enough nutrition on its own. I’ll require total parenteral nutrition (TPN) through a central line, ongoing ostomy care, physical therapy, and close monitoring. This surgery is high-risk, but it’s necessary to preserve my life.
This time, I’m choosing preparation over crisis. My goal is to heal fully without financial trauma, minimize complications, and return to my community whole.
My Commitment
I’m preparing my home for TPN and ostomy care, coordinating with doctors and therapists, and organizing a team of friends and family to support me. I’ve also applied for disability support, though my first claim was denied and is under appeal. This campaign is part of my plan to approach recovery with dignity and peace of mind.
Gratitude
Thank you for taking the time to read, share, or donate. Your support allows me to focus fully on healing, regaining my autonomy, and returning to the work I love: building spaces for others to find grounding, community, and radical healing.
With love and gratitude,
Adria / Agie / Adrianna in this lifetime
See you on the other side ♥️
