Update: Zara had her surgery and all went well. Pathology shows it wasn't aggressive and hadn't spread!! This surgery, and your help, had extended this dream pup's life ❤️❤️

Zara is my grandpuppy. She is my daughter Samantha's best friend and support dog. Last week, Samantha noticed a lump on Zara's throat, and less than a week later, we've seen a vet and an oncologist. Thyroid carcinoma. Not a hopeful diagnosis. This is something we never financially planned for, considering she’s barely even six years old, it seemed like such an unlikely occurrence. We’re doing every thing in our power to pay for the surgery, which is scheduled for July 6th, but even after scraping together all of our available cash and credit, it barely begins to cover it. Since the cancer hasn’t spread, there’s a good chance that the surgery will give Zara a normal lifespan. We are choosing to have it removed to extend her precious life. She is a support dog in every way. As her support dog, Zara provides a quality of life for Samantha that is unobtainable without her. As anyone who’s dealt with mental illness and chronic pain know, dogs can give us a sense of purpose outside of ourselves, further motivating self care and an active lifestyle. We know just how priceless Zara’s impact has been for her in her day to day life; they have an amazing bond reminiscent of a boy and his dog, and we’re asking for help to keep both of them happy and healthy.
