On 09/10/2017 I received a call from my brother "Richard's been in an accident" and my heart skipped. Richard was getting on to the 55 freeway in Southern California, when he hit a patch of gravel and lost control of his motorcycle. His body rolled across three lanes as cars drove by, and his bike landed several yards down the freeway. He was extremely lucky. He was wearing full protective gear, which was torn to shreds. When the paramedics arrived he was breathing and cracking jokes about them having to cut into his Ninja Turtle shirt.
Richard was rushed to the hospital, where they found 4 broken ribs, two sprained ankles a sprained wrist and extremely bad road rash on several parts of his body.
There is never a good time for an accident, but this accident could not have happened at a worse time. Richard was one week away from graduating from a HVAC trade-school, and had just started his dream job as an HVAC technician. Richard had joined the Union only 5 weeks prior, and was weeks away from having full medical benefits.
Due to his injuries, Richard is unable to work, yet because he technically has a job he does not qualify for government health insurance. At this point, Richard is not bringing in an income, yet we are trying to afford the medical care he needs.
We would so grateful for any advice or donations to help us through this emotional, physical and financial hardship.
