Opportunity Knocked and I Jumped
Based on a draft of my original TV pilot, I've been accepted to a TV writing workshop with Alan Kingsberg at The Southampton Writers Conference from July 11 to July 22, 2018. In addition to his list of writing, producing and directing credits, Alan Kingsberg's students have gone on to write for 30 Rock, Weeds, Kimmy Schmidt, Stranger Things, and more. I couldn’t say no--I’ve wanted to do something like this, and specifically, have wanted to study with him for a few years.
As part of a conference, I'll also attend panels, lectures, and readings with an impressive list of literary and publishing illuminati.* Honoring my passion for TV writing will have the added benefit of enriching my teaching skills. The very first question of the preparation exercise made it clear this workshop is exactly what I wanted, and what I learn will be applicable to all forms of storytelling.
How the Expenses Break Down
I was originally planning to go to this class in Los Angeles, but due to scheduling conflicts, this is the only workshop I can attend. As part of a conference, the workshop is more than twice as long as the one in LA, and the cost, including room and board, is three times as high. This feels like an "If not now, when?" moment. I'm taking the leap and asking for your help to finance this learning opportunity.
Why I'm Asking for Your Assistance
It’s important to me to keep the Philadelphia Writers Workshop diverse, so I do offer assistance whenever I can, and I try to keep the overall tuition down. After expenses and taxes, it is truly a labor of love. I’ve also run into major dental expenses on top of my normally high medical expenses.
Any and all donations would help enormously and be deeply appreciated.
