Now, about my hearing loss: I have severe loss in the lower ranges, which is where many of the consonant sounds register, so I have trouble distinguishing sounds of letters like 'B', 'D', 'M', and 'N'. I have another range of severe loss in a higher range, which is where most of the fricatives (or combined consonants) register, such as 'Ch', 'Sh', 'F', etc. This makes it extremely difficult to figure out what someone is saying, even within the context of a conversation. I also have tinnitus, a constant high-pitched sound in my ears, which at times can be overwhelming.
I teach junior high at a small school. It is very frustrating for me, and for my students, that I have to ask them to repeat themselves so often. I would love to be able to understand what people are saying again!
Because of the split range of my hearing loss, my doctor says I need the fancy programmable hearing aids, which cost approximately $6000 - $8000 dollars. We've been trying to save up for them for a couple years, but haven't been able to make any progress with how slow Bill's business has been the last couple years.
I feel guilty asking others to help pay for something, but my hearing loss has started to have such a negative effect on my family and my job that I finally decided that I just needed to ask. So, please, if you can help out even a little I would really appreciate it. It would improve not only my quality of life but also my ability to do my job to the best of my ability.
I appreciate any amount you can give, big or small, as well as any and all shares of this GoFundMe page on social media. I can hardly wait to hear again.
