Hello everyone. We would like to start by thanking you for taking the time to check out the go fund me we have started for our nephew Esteban. His little short life has be shook by a complicated disease that has effect his muscular growth and his family’s lives. We are trying to raise some money to help cover medical costs. Esteban is 7 months old and he has something called Spinal Muscular Atrophy (SMA). SMA is a rare genetic disease that is progressive. It affects the central nervous system, peripheral nervous system, and voluntary muscle movement. It affects 1 in 10,000 children. With SMA weakened respiratory muscles make it difficult to cough and clear secretions, leading to increased risk of serious respiratory infection. He has had 3 different surgeries including a tracheostomy to help with his breathing. There is no cure for SMA, however there are treatments available to help improve his way of living. As you can imagine most of these procedures are not covered by medical insurance and this is why we are asking for your help. Please help us give Esteban the care he needs.

Su corta vida se ha visto sacudida por una complicada enfermedad que ha afectado su crecimiento muscular y la vida de su familia. Estamos tratando de recaudar algo de dinero para ayudar a cubrir los costos médicos. Esteban tiene 7 meses y tiene algo que se llama Atrofia Muscular Espinal (AME). La AME es una enfermedad genética poco común que es progresiva. Afecta el sistema nervioso central, el sistema nervioso periférico y el movimiento muscular voluntario. Afecta a 1 de cada 10.000 niños. Con AME, los músculos respiratorios debilitados dificultan la tos y la eliminación de las secreciones, lo que aumenta el riesgo de infecciones respiratorias graves. Ha tenido 3 cirugías diferentes, incluida una traqueotomía para ayudarlo con la respiración. No existe cura para la AME, sin embargo, existen tratamientos disponibles para ayudar a mejorar su forma de vida. Como puede imaginar, la mayoría de estos procedimientos no están cubiertos por el seguro médico y por eso le pedimos su ayuda. Ayúdenos a darle a Esteban la atención que necesita.
