EB is a pain in the bath.

After some thought and deep soul searching I decided (of course with the ok from Weston's mom) to ask for help to get a walk in bathtub for Weston.  For those who don't know him, let me 'introduce' you to Weston.  He was born with EB.  EB is short for Epidermolysis Bullosa.  In short, his body lacks the 'sticky' stuff that keeps his skin on his body.  What that means is that ANY friction against his skin causes his skin to literally peel off and this causes blisters, sores and is VERY, VERY painful.  He has to keep his body wrapped with bandages to keep his wounds clean and keep further damage from happening.  Can you imagine going through your whole life living with this type of pain?  Can you imagine being his mom, his dad?  I know I can't.  I had the pleasure of meeting Weston's mom many years ago when she was my youngest daughter's kindergarten teacher (my daughter is 18 now to give you an indication of how long I have known her).  She is absolutely an amazing person.  I had NO IDEA she had such a compelling story.  She is such a wonderful, happy, sweet woman that I honestly had no idea until I became the school nurse at the junior high and met an AMAZING young man (her son) and put two and two together that I realized.  I learned from him, his mother and his school aid about EB, what it meant and how it impacted their life DAILY.  I also found out there is NO CURE!  However, did this diagnosis put a damper on the fact that meeting and knowing and loving Weston made one of the most positive impacts on me ever, NO.  He smiled, laughed and was the hilight of my days there.  This family DESERVES our help.  His dad is a police officer and works every single day to help ensure our safety, to make sure we are all secure and makes sure we are free of pain and suffering, why shouldn't we help out with helping HIS family be a little bit happier and burden free?  Although he does provide insurance with his employment, which they are extremely grateful for, this insurance does NOT cover his needed and absolutely NECESSARY bandages for his open wounds to keep him from having life threatening infections from the wounds EB causes AND baths are the only way to remove the daily bandages and cleanse the wounds.  This costs them alot of money out of pocket.  It also does not cover this type of bathtub which is essential.

You may be thinking, ok but WHY does he NEED a WALK IN tub?  Can you imagine trying to lift your legs over a tub and then sit all the way back down, when you are covered in areas where your skin is gone, comparable to full body burns, covered in bandages and in full body pain?  And, if you happen to graze your legs on the tub you make yet another painful peeling blister.  I can't either.  These walk-in tubs are not cheap.  Neither is the construction to reconfigure the bathroom to allow room for this to be installed.  Now will he get a tub anyway??  Sure he will because he has the most AWESOME parents ever who will take loans and do whatever it takes.  What I am asking, on behalf of some of the most selfless people I have ever met, is to please help offset this cost.  Please donate $1, $5, whatever you can afford, to help offset the costs of this construction and this tub.  Please help them to afford Weston the opportunity to have some chance at a bath with just a little less pain, just a little less stress.  What WILL matter is that Weston can get this tub and allow his mom and dad to be lifted, no matter how much, of some or all of this financial weight.  I have been in his presence and have the honor of actually saying I do love him dearly and can tell you, without a doubt, he deserves this.  Thank you all so much for taking time to read this.
