Doug & I found out last year, kind of by accident, that in NY State it's rather complicated and expensive for a minor to perform unless he is employed by a theater or modeling/talent agency who takes care of all the paperwork and expenses. But what if you're not on Broadway or in magazines, have multiple employers, and your dad is part of your act so HE is the payee? That means you need to either convince each of your venues to pay $350 every three years and complete a bunch of online applications every time they book you, or absorb all that responsibility and cost yourself. Don't want to do all that? You and/or the venues and individuals who book you can be fined or worse. We don't want that for anyone, so this year Doug became Eamonn's employer and paid a total of $950 at once to obtain all the necessary permits and certificates for Eamonn to keep doing what he does legally. $600 of that is a required worker's comp insurance premium which will come due again next July--likely at a higher amount. After 4 years of steady live performances, we are ready to take Eamonn to the next level and are hoping to get him seen and heard by the right people and to gain some experience with some music masters and other kids who like what he likes! He is headed to Roots Rock Revival Camp this summer in the Catskills where he will spend 5 days in workshops and jamming with other musicians of all ages and skill levels. Because Eamonn is under 16, Doug has to go, too (about which he is actually very excited)! The cost for two people to camp in tents at Full Moon Resort in Big Indian, NY for 5 days is around $2,500 which includes the workshops and meals. The luxury accommodations run up to $2,600 per person, so that is not our goal here! Past instructors have been the late Butch Trucks, the late Col. Bruce Hampton, Victor Wooten, and guitar prodigy Brandon Niederauer just to name a few. Roots Rock Revival is where Brandon blew their socks off which led to many fortuitous musical collaborations with the Allman Brothers and many more. These connections and the chance to jam with and learn from some great musicians would be very beneficial for Eamonn-- music has been and continues to be a very important and therapeutic aspect of his development. We are seeking donations to help with the cost of attending Roots Rock Revival Camp. You can learn more about what goes on there at this link: http://www.rootsrockrevival.com.
