This is Cecil at the n. central shelter... he waited for someone to help him. He was listed as a 'stray' and to no surprise, no one came looking for Cecil. It was apparent the life of negelct this poor soul had lived, with open bleeding fly strikes on both ears, an abrasion on his nose which was raw and started scabbing. His eyes and body language tell a sad story pure neglect. Dull, dry fur with callouses on his elbows from a life sentenced to outdoor living without shelter. He has sun damage and his eye has a slight ulcer due to outdoor damage from debris and extreme heat with no shelter. He had a bad rap from the shelter staff which gave him a 'bad' note on his record....'growled' at medical staff when they went in to give him his medicine... Cecil was lonely, in pain and feared for his life as he had already heard his time was up and was slated to be euthanized. No one was coming for him so he crawled into a ball on the cement floor to hide from the world. I heard about Cecil (not his name at the time) from an email plea I received. I couldn't believe no one had stepped up for this boy. I felt an intense gut instinct to go and meet him to see what he was all about. No one wanted to get him out of his kennel per his notes in the system. Finally as I waited for a worker to come and let him out so I could meet him outside of the iron bars ...I crouched down and looked at him...Cecil stood up and approached just starring at me.... he sat down... I slipped my hand underneath the tightly narrow iron bars, Cecil laid down and put his paw on my hand.... I stayed there for a bit and when I tried gently pulling my hand back, Cecil held onto it with a grip, a gentle grip holding my hand and asking for help. His beautiful, but sad amber eyes starred at me and though I didn't know his exact story before the shelter, I know what he was trying to tell me. When Cecil was out of his confinement, he was a sweet gentle giant. He sat without command, gave me paw and even jumped up slightly to give me a kiss.... This was Cecil's way of asking for help. I agreed to help Cecil on what would have been his last day on earth...what a shame. Wrongly labeled, a gorgeous dog with a heart of pure gold was about to be killed. He was scared, lonely and dogs definteily know when they are not 'safe'...... Rescue is a process for those of you who have done it and do it. He saw the initial Vet where the shelters send them to be neutered. Basic check-up is done there. I picked him up as I had promised to from the Vets to begin his journey in finding his forver home. I had a great family that was scheduled to meet him. I wanted to do a recheck at my own Vet as I normally would with my rescue dogs. Cecil had been limping slightly on his rear right leg..... after x-rays were done, it was determined that Cecil had a partial torn anterior crucial ligament and would need expensive surgery.... My heart just sank! Poor Cecil already having been through so much, but this surgery is necessary in order to relieve chronic pain associated with ACL's injuries. They are also expensive surgeris and defintiley not something anyone is prepared for. So, Cecil and I are asking for some help to fund Cecil's surgery. Aftercare will be important in his healing efforts and physical therapy which we are not including in this plea for help. IF you can all give $5, 10, 15...whatever you can, it all adds up so Cecil can have his surgery he so despeartely needs and deserves. His family that was interested in meeting him, luckily are still interested in him. They'll have the very difficult job of the aftercare. They are prepared for everything and anything beyond the surgery, but we'd like to get Cecil his surgery so he can find a true forever loving home.
