Help Luther and Jenny Snyder and miracle daughter Sophia Snyder

My friend and fellow teacher Jenny Snyder and husband Luther, gave birth via emergency c-section due to HELLP Syndrome on May 23rd to their miracle daughter named Sophia Snyder.  I am setting up this fund to raise money for much needed help with their medical expenses.  Here is their story:

Jenny and Luther were married in 2012. Given that they were in their 40’s and it was their dream to become parents, they immediately started trying to have a family.

After six months of trying they consulted a wonderful fertility clinic called Carolina Conceptions in Raleigh, NC. After an unsuccessful regiment of pills, shots and timed intercourse, it was recommended they try in vitro fertilization (IVF).  With a $6,000 deposit, Jenny became pregnant on the first try! But at 10 weeks, things took a turn for the worst. Jenny had her blood test to show the sex of the baby and to test for any chromosomal abnormalities. The test showed positive. More testing at week 12 told their daughter had Down Syndrome and a myriad of other chromosomal abnormalities and that she probably would not survive. On December 23, 2013, they lost their daughter.

They mourned and prayed and let the healing process begin.  They went through another round of IVF with a price tag of $20,000 and it was unsuccessful.

The Doctors at Carolina Conceptions wanted to do some exploratory tests and examinations to determine what may be causing Jenny so much trouble.  They found that Jenny had uterine fibroids and were not detectable though conventional means.  Under advisement of Carolina Conceptions, Jenny had the uterine fibroids removed in August of 2014 to the tune of $8,000.

After three rounds of IVF and uterine fibroid surgery costing well over $50,000, Jenny became pregnant in October of 2014!

Jenny’s pregnancy was going along just fine and their daughter had a due date of July 13, 2015. But on May 23, 2015, Jenny gave birth at 32 weeks due to HELLP syndrome (a life threating form of pre-eclampsia involving a hematoma on the liver).  Jenny was first taken to Rex, but then she was flown via helicopter to UNC Women’s Hospital for the C-section and HELLP syndrome trauma treatment.

Sophia Marie Snyder was born 7 weeks early and spent 2 weeks in UNC and Rex’s NICU. Baby Sophia is recovering great and is home with Luther and Jenny.  Jenny spent 2 days in ICU and 3 days in observation at UNC Women’s Hospital. Jenny continues to be under doctors’ supervision and is recovering steady but slowly at home.  She cannot drive and Luther is taking time off of work to take care of both Jenny and Sophia.

Jenny and Luther now await the bills from Blue Cross Blue Shield covering the helicopter ride from Rex to UNC, the C-section and HELLP operations, ICU and NICU stays, and continued doctors’care. Sophia is a true miracle baby.

Your help will hopefully give Luther, Jenny, and Sophia one less thing to worry about, and provide them with a small but needed cushion for the next couple months, so that they can overcome this medical setback and get to bond with their beautiful baby, instead of having to worry about bills.  Anything you can contribute is much appreciated, and any amount helps. Thank you so much. Jenny and her family mean the world to me, and all I want to do is see her recover and be a mom to Sophia.
