Zy has always been an extremely happy and healthy baby and never showed any sign of illness. So it was an extreme shock to find out that he’s been living with cancer for most of his 2 years of life. As a parent you never expect this to happen to your children and I often wonder how this went unnoticed. Kids are so strong and resilient we sometimes never know that they’re not feeling well.
The first sign that something was wrong was in May when he began limping and having fevers. We took him to his pediatrician who referred us to ortho. Ortho did X-rays of his hips and saw something abnormal. He admitted us to the hospital immediately which I am extremely grateful for. After ultrasounds, MRI’s CT scans and more X-rays we were informed that Zy has cancer on top of having a broken femur.
After seeing his oncologist and having more imaging, biopsy of a tumor, bone marrow biopsy and lots of blood work, it’s been determined that he has Stage 4 high risk Neuroblastoma. It has metastasized to his ribs, pelvis, femurs, tibia/fibulas, humerus’, skull, orbital bones, mandible, spine and bone marrow. The cancer caused the spontaneous fracture in his femur. He has had his first cycle of intensive chemotherapy and is planned to have 4 more. In between the cycles he will receive blood transfusions starting tomorrow, surgery for primary tumor removal, several out of town visits to Cooks hospital in Fort Worth for stem cell harvesting and 2 stem cell transplant. And after all of that he will begin radiation and then immunotherapy. We were told that he has the MYCN amplification which ultimately gives him an unfavorable prognosis.
All of the donations will go towards his treatment and care. We are so hopeful that he will overcome this! We greatly appreciate all of the support that has been given to us. We understand if you’re unable to donate, all we ask is to please say a prayer for sweet baby Zy! Thank you all so much
