Most of you know my girl Zooey from concerts, National shows, and the many events and music-related adventures we’ve shared over the years. She’s been such a big part of my life, and right now, she needs help more than ever.
A couple of days ago, I shared that Zooey was dealing with pancreatitis. Yesterday, I posted about a strange cough she had started making. I never imagined that within days, I would be facing something this devastating.
Zooey suddenly became extremely weak in her back legs, and I rushed her to the emergency vet. After testing, we received heartbreaking news: she has an aggressive adrenal tumor that has spread into her abdominal cavity and is pressing on her vena cava, a major blood vessel. She also has severe aspiration pneumonia and dangerously high blood pressure.
Her blood pressure was an alarming 254 when she arrived.
Right now, Zooey is staying at the emergency hospital for two nights so the vets can treat her pneumonia, bring her blood pressure down safely, and stabilize her condition. Only then can we better understand what comes next with the cancer.
There is some encouraging news. The care team told me that Zooey is alert, looking around, and currently has a pain score of zero. My biggest hope is to get her stable enough to come home, where I can give her all the love, comfort, and care she deserves, including hospice care if that is the path we need to take.
Because the cancer has spread and is affecting a major blood vessel, surgery is not an option. I am trying to process all of this while making the best decisions I can for my girl.
I’m hoping to raise $8,000 to help cover Zooey’s emergency veterinary care, her hospital stay, diagnostic testing, medications, and the treatment needed to get her comfortable and hopefully back home.
Emergency veterinary bills add up incredibly quickly, and this is an expense I wasn't prepared for. Asking for help isn't easy, but Zooey means the world to me, and I want to do everything I reasonably can to give her the care she needs.
My goal is to make whatever time Zooey has left as comfortable, peaceful, and full of love as possible. She deserves to be spoiled, surrounded by familiar things, and home with me for as long as we can manage safely.
If you are able to donate, any amount would mean more to me than I can put into words. If you can't donate, sharing this fundraiser would help so much, too. And if you've been through something similar with your own dog, I would be grateful for any advice or support.
Thank you to everyone who has loved Zooey, followed her adventures, checked in on us, and been part of our lives. I am holding on to hope and taking this one day at a time.
We love you, Zooey. ❤️
