Help Zoey Heal After Life-Changing Surgery

Donation protected
My name is Zoey, although many of you know me as Sister Zo.

On November 3, I'll be undergoing facial feminization surgery. I have been wanting to get this surgery for fifteen years, since I first began my transition in 2010, but until now it’s been out of reach for me.

Facial feminization surgery is a vital step in my transition—in fact it feels like the completion of this long journey. For me, it isn’t about vanity or changing who I am—it’s about allowing who I am on the inside to finally be reflected on the outside. Our faces shape how we’re recognized in the world, and mine is often misread in ways that bring discomfort, fear, and dysphoria. This surgery will give me the freedom to live with more ease, to feel safe, and to see myself in the mirror as I truly am.

Dysphoria isn't something I can simply ‘think’ away—it’s a daily burden that surgery can relieve. FFS will be life-changing: it means peace of mind, a stronger sense of belonging and safety, and most importantly it will allow me to move through the world authentically and confidently. This is why I’m asking for help. Your support isn’t just funding my procedure and aftercare—it’s giving me the chance to live fully as myself, with dignity, safety, and joy.

For most trans women, FFS is prohibitively expensive, often costing upwards of $40,000 without insurance. I am fortunate to have qualified for NYC's Amidacare program, which will cover the bulk of the medical costs.

However, as I am a full-time DJ and my work lies solely in the public sphere, I will be resting and healing for two months or longer with little to no work. During this time, I'll be mostly under wraps, literally and figuratively. As such, I am seeking to raise $15,000 to help cover costs related to the surgery and other expenses which I'll have no other way of affording without support.

Funds will be used to pay:
  • Multiple months of rent ($1500 per month)
  • Medical bills, student loan bills, credit card bills, utilities, insurance, etc.
  • End of year moving costs (my lease ends at the end of the year and I'm planning on moving elsewhere in the city, but I'll likely be physically unfit to undertake this without a moving company)
  • Flights and hotel for my mom to come take care of me during my initial weeks of recovery.
  • Medical supplies like compression garments, ice packs, scar gel, etc.
  • Food and other miscellaneous needs

I pride myself on being self-sufficient, but this deeply vulnerable process requires me to swallow my pride and seek out the support of my family, friends, community, and fans.

If you’ve ever been moved by one of my sets, enjoyed listening to my music, or found solace in my writing, it would mean a lot if you would consider donating. I understand these are hard times for everyone right now but any financial support would be so appreciated as I take this important step towards deeper personal freedom.

With love,
Zoey
