Zion is a junior at Westbrook High School in South Los Angeles, a former Crete Academy student, and a young musician with a clear dream: to grow as a guitarist and one day attend USC Thornton School of Music.
This summer, Zion was accepted into the USC Thornton Summer Guitar Seminar: Jazz, Rock, and Beyond — a highly selective program designed for serious young musicians ready to take the next step.
For Zion, this isn’t just a summer camp — it’s a meaningful step toward his future.
The program takes place on USC’s campus, where students work directly with USC Thornton faculty and are immersed in the environment day to day. That kind of access is rare. It gives Zion the opportunity to build real relationships, receive mentorship from professors, and experience firsthand what it means to be a student there — all of which can play an important role as he works toward applying to USC.
I had the privilege of teaching Zion when he was in elementary school at Crete Academy, and even then, his commitment to music stood out. Over time, I’ve watched that passion grow into discipline, focus, and a real dedication to improving. Music has helped shape his confidence and who he is today.
He’s the kind of student who shows up, puts in the work, and keeps going.
Getting accepted into this program is a big step forward. The only barrier right now is cost.
The total cost for tuition and fees is $7,130, and we’re coming together to make sure that doesn’t stand in the way of this opportunity.
Every contribution — big or small — goes directly toward helping Zion attend this program and continue building toward his future in music.
If you’re able to support, it truly makes a difference. And if not, sharing this helps more than you know.
Thank you for being part of Zion’s journey.
