*Help Zion Access Life-Changing Treatment for Severe Brain Injury
️ Our Miracle Baby, Zion
On June 23, 2024, our son Zion came into this world.
After a long and difficult labour — made worse by medical negligence — Zion suffered a severe lack of oxygen to his brain. He was pronounced stillborn.
But against all odds, the doctors brought him back to life.
Zion was immediately placed under therapeutic hypothermia and spent five grueling months in the NICU. His survival alone was a miracle. No one believed he would make it through — but our angel boy did. And he continues to fight every single day.
⸻
Zion’s Diagnosis: Severe HIE and Multiple Complications
Since June, Zion has been diagnosed with Severe Hypoxic-Ischemic Encephalopathy (HIE) — a serious brain injury caused by oxygen deprivation at birth.
As a result, Zion now lives with several complex medical conditions:
• Quadriplegic Cerebral Palsy — he has no control over his body.
• Severe Dystonia — involuntary muscle contractions that cause twisting and stiffness.
• Hearing Loss
• Non-Verbal — he is unable to speak or make typical vocal sounds.
• Cortical Visual Impairment (CVI) — although his eyes are structurally healthy, his brain cannot process visual information, meaning he cannot see.
• Epilepsy — focal and generalized seizures resistant to medication.
• West Syndrome — a rare and severe form of epilepsy that causes infantile spasms and developmental regression.
• Tracheostomy Dependence — Zion must be aspirated through his tracheostomy around the clock to keep his airway clear and prevent choking or respiratory distress.
• Gastrostomy Tube (G-tube) — all his nutrition and medication are delivered through a feeding tube directly to his stomach.
Zion’s daily care requires the dedication of multiple specialists, including:
• Pneumologist
• Nutritionist
• Neurologist
• Pediatrician
• Ophthalmologist
• ENT Specialist
Despite all of this, Zion remains strong and continues to show subtle signs of awareness and connection.
He can’t smile or cry, but we feel his responses — when we caress his head, when we kiss his cheeks, when we hold his tiny hands.
He knows he is loved.

The Road Ahead: A Promising Treatment in Mexico
Zion needs multiple therapy sessions every week:
• Motor and respiratory physiotherapy
• Occupational therapy
• Speech and oral motor therapy
These early interventions are essential — his brain is still developing and capable of forming new neural pathways.
Now, we have the opportunity to bring Zion to Mexico for a specialized neurological rehabilitation program that focuses on reactivating and reconnecting damaged brain cells.
This innovative approach offers hope for:
• Improved mobility
• Better quality of life
• Increased awareness and responsiveness
The treatment program costs USD 35,000, not including flights and accommodation.
For Zion, this could mean a real chance at progress — a chance to experience the world with greater comfort and awareness.

Zion’s Daily Medical Needs
Zion’s condition demands constant care and an extensive supply of medical materials.
To keep his airway clear, a suction probe must be used through his tracheostomy. Each probe is single-use for infection control — and Zion can require dozens of probes each day.
He also relies on a range of consumables including tracheostomy filters, suction catheters, oxygen tubing, saline vials, gauze, syringes, feeding sets, and nebulizer chambers — all of which must be replaced regularly to keep him safe from infection.
His epilepsy and muscle tone are managed through multiple daily medications — anticonvulsants, muscle relaxants, respiratory aids, and supplements.
To help manage seizures and support brain function, Zion follows a strict ketogenic diet, carefully formulated and administered through his G-tube using specialized medical milk and ingredients.
Because Zion requires 24-hour airway management and emergency response to seizures, he must remain under the constant supervision of trained in-home nurses who monitor oxygen levels, perform suctioning, and manage his feeding and medications.
All of these are ongoing essentials that keep Zion stable, safe, and able to continue his therapies.

♿ The Cost of Growing Up with Complex Needs
As Zion grows, his care requirements evolve. He will need:
• Adaptive wheelchair for mobility and posture support
• Car seat with special support system for safe transport
• Adapted shower chair for bathing safely
• Parapodium (standing frame) to strengthen his posture and bones
• Arm and leg extensors for daily stretching
• Custom orthotic shoes for proper foot alignment
• Orthoses (braces) to stabilize his joints and prevent contractures
These specialized tools will help him maintain comfort, prevent pain, and encourage physical development.

How You Can Help
The emotional, physical, and financial toll of caring for Zion is immense. Every contribution — big or small — brings us closer to giving him the chance he deserves.
Your donation will go directly toward:
• The neurological treatment program in Mexico
• Flights and accommodation for Zion and his caregivers
• Daily medical supplies and suction probes
• Medications and ketogenic nutrition
• Full-time in-home nursing care
• Therapies and rehabilitation sessions
• Adaptive medical and mobility equipment
Your generosity isn’t just funding a treatment — it’s helping a little boy experience more comfort, connection, and hope.

✨ Update
We just want to say a huge thank you to everyone who’s donated, shared, and sent us love and prayers. Your support means the world to us.
Because of all of you, we’re getting closer to bringing Zion to Monterrey, Mexico, for his Cytotron treatment. A 28–30 day program that gives us real hope for his healing and progress.
As we’ve started planning the trip, we realized that all the treatment costs are charged in USD, while the GoFundMe platform is set to AUD and unfortunately can’t be changed after launching the campaign. To make sure we can actually reach the full amount needed to cover Zion’s treatment, travel, accommodation, medical supplies, and home care after therapy, we’ve updated the fundraising goal to reflect the correct conversion and total cost in USD.
We want to be completely transparent with everyone supporting us. Nothing has changed about our purpose, only the currency adjustment to make sure Zion gets everything he needs.
We know it’s a big goal, but every bit helps. Every donation, every share, every kind message truly makes a difference.
Thank you for standing with us and giving our little warrior, Zion, a fighting chance.
With love and gratitude,
G, Pam & Baby Zion
