Meet Zinnia, my sister Madeline’s rescue pup! This gentle 6-month old baby needs our help. She has had some sudden medical emergencies including being diagnosed with Parvo and these expenses associated with it are too much for my sister to handle.

They met 2 weeks ago when Zinnia was wandering the streets in front of Maddie’s house and bounded up to her. It’s like she knew she’d found her forever home instantly. She was starving, her ribs poking out. Maddie took her in and nurtured her. They bonded immediately including with Maddie’s other rescue dog, Reg.

Maddie had Zinnia tested for anything and everything. Unfortunately, she got multiple false negatives! It turned out Zinnia had worms and seemed to have an obstruction in her stomach as she stopped eating and drinking this week.

Madeline took her in to the doctor and they couldn’t get a good read on her x-rays. They even gave her barium to see it clearer and all it did was pool in her stomach! They secured the best way to help her was to do an exploratory surgery. But they didn’t find any obstruction after all!

It turns out Zinnia has Parvovirus, a highly serious infection which she must have picked up as a stray. Madeline ran her to an emergency 24-hour care vet facility. They had given her IV fluids, anti-nausea meds, and very expensive monoclonal antibodies. All they can do is try to help her fight off the virus and get stronger as, unfortunately, there is no direct cure for Parvo. All you can do is support and strengthen the dog to the best of your ability and hope

they can fight it off.

Between the Parvo treatments, the unnecessary surgery for the perceived blockage, and the $3000 per night cost of the emergency vet facility, Madeline simply cannot afford this alone. She has the two dogs, just bought her first home a couple months ago, and is a special education teacher. She is determined to do everything it takes to take care of Zinnia no matter what! But she has had to put all of these expenses on credit.

My sister is such an open-hearted, loving, selfless person. And Zinnia is a gentle, sweet, adoring puppy. Both of them deserve all the love and help we can give them.
