Zinab Osman Yonis is from Siwa and is the oldest of six children. She has completed three years in the Arabic Department at the Faculty of Education at Marsa Matrouh University and hopes to begin her fourth and final year this fall.
Her father works at a water factory in Siwa and supports a family of eight. With the rising cost of living and five other children to care for, he cannot afford the full cost of sending Zinab to university for another year. Average wages in Siwa are about $200 CAD per month, making the cost of university difficult for many local families to manage.
Salsabeel Charity is raising $1,500 CAD to cover Zinab’s expenses for the full academic year:
- Accommodation for the year: $700
- Food and basic living expenses: $350
- Transportation between Siwa and Marsa Matrouh: $175
- University fees: $145
- Books and study materials: $75
- Phone, internet and administrative expenses: $55
After graduating, Zinab plans to return to Siwa and work as an Arabic teacher.
Zinab will be the second university student sponsored by Salsabeel Charity. We are also hosting an Egyptian Market on Saturday, August 29, 2026, from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. at OPEX Abbotsford. Proceeds from the market and donations made through this fundraiser will go toward the same $1,500 goal.
Please consider donating or sharing Zinab’s story. Your support can help her complete her degree and return to Siwa as a teacher.
