Hi, my name is Toni, and this is my best friend, Ziggy. He’s turning 14 in December and still acts like a puppy most days. He’s a fox terrier and hound mix with more personality than most people I know. Since the day I brought him home as a tiny pup, Ziggy’s been by my side through everything. Every move, every road trip, every hard day, and every happy one. If you know me, you know Ziggy; we are a package deal. I don't think there is someone that has met me or seen me in the last 13 years that has not met Ziggy.
Over the past few years, he’s started developing a few lumps and bumps, both inside and out. We like to call them his "old man bumps." But one of them that’s been the most concerning is a mole on his head. In the last year, it’s been changing quickly in size and color, and because of where it’s located, he keeps scratching at it with his back paw. It’s been painful for him and hard to watch, and the cleanup and smell, yeah, I will spare the details.
We’ve been seeing the vet regularly for months now. Originally, they couldn’t do surgery because his liver numbers were too high, but after switching him to a prescription diet and sticking to it, his numbers have finally improved enough that surgery is an option again.
At our last appointment on October 7, 2025, though, the vet said she’s almost certain the growth is cancerous. Before removing it, she wants to take chest X-rays to make sure the cancer hasn’t spread. If it hasn’t, we’ll move forward with surgery to remove the growth and send it off for testing.
Here’s what the costs look like:
- Chest X-rays: ~ $600
- Surgery and biopsy: ~ $1,500
- Secondary vet opinion on cancer: ~ $200–$1,000
I’ve already spent about $400 at his last visit, and around $500 at the first visit around March, but I’ll do whatever I can to make sure Ziggy gets the care he needs. However, the upcoming costs are more than I can handle on my own. I’m asking for help so that Ziggy can have a real chance to keep living the happy, goofy, tail-wagging life he still loves so much.
If you’re able to donate, share this, or just send us good thoughts, I’d be so grateful. Every bit helps more than you know. Thank you for reading, for caring, and for supporting Ziggy. He’s my life, and I just want to give him the best chance possible for his remaining years.
Love,
Toni & Ziggy ❤️
