Get Ziggy Stardust the Care He Deserves

On December 26, 2024, our family was blessed to adopt Ziggy Stardust, our very first dog. After a long search, we were looking for a special pup who could be a good fit for our family. Our son, who has Down Syndrome, can be sensitive to change, so we knew we needed to find just the right companion. When we met Ziggy, it was love at first sight. From the moment we brought him home, he was everything we hoped for — kind, patient, and incredibly loving.

However, Ziggy’s journey to us was not an easy one. His past is heartbreaking. It is believed that he was shot in the face and was found nearly starved to death. Despite this, Ziggy is the sweetest, gentlest soul, and we are so grateful to give him the love and care he so richly deserves.

Ziggy’s first vet visit went well, but our vet did mention that he would likely need some dental work. Two weeks later, we returned for an ear infection, and during the examination, our vet discovered something alarming — Ziggy has a hole in his palate that goes through to his sinus. After a referral, we saw Dr. Jennings at Blue Pearl Veterinary Partners in Levittown, PA.

Dr. Jennings’ assessment revealed that Ziggy has severe periodontal disease, and the hole in his palate needs to be repaired. Additionally, all of Ziggy’s teeth need to be removed due to advanced bone loss and the probable pain he’s experiencing. While this is a major procedure, Dr. Jennings is confident that Ziggy will make a full recovery. In fact, there’s a chance he may even be able to eat kibble again, though he’ll have to gum it.

The cost of Ziggy’s treatment — including bloodwork, surgery, and a potential overnight stay — is estimated to be $7,500. This is a significant financial burden, but we’re determined to get Ziggy the care he needs.

Ziggy deserves a long, healthy, and happy life, filled with all the love, warmth, and snuggles we can give him. Any help, no matter how small, would be deeply appreciated as we work to give him the best chance at a pain-free future.
