Help Ziggy Fight His Cancer Again
I'm reluctantly creating this GoFundMe, because so many people have already helped Ziggy so much. It's because of those people that we've been able to enjoy several more months with our sweet boy, Ziggy. I feel kind of guilty for asking for help, yet again, but several people strongly urged me to create this fundraiser, so here we are.
For those of you who don't know Ziggy's story, at the end of 2024, he was diagnosed with osteosarcoma in his right front leg, and urgently needed an amputation. With the help of my wonderful, dog-loving community, we were able to provide Ziggy with the medical care he needed, and get him to all of his follow-up appointments. We were very optimistic, because, as of his last follow-up, he was still cancer-free.
Two days ago, my son was visiting, and he let the dogs out to potty, and he said that Ziggy "kinda tripped" on the two stairs leading from the house, onto the back patio, and he "let out a loud yelp." After that, Ziggy has been limping, favoring his back left leg. Nobody ever wants their dog to be injured, but in Ziggy's case, we are desperately hoping he's injured, and it's not recurring cancer.
I called the vet, (Bannon Woods (502)-363-6304) and made an appointment for tomorrow morning (June 3, 2025) at 9:30am. They informed me that if the cancer has returned, they will most likely recommend euthanasia, as he can't lose another leg. They said that they could give him meds to keep him comfortable, so that we can have a little bit of extra time with him, but that the humane thing to do would be to sadly say goodbye. My husband and I are beside ourselves. Ziggy is such a beloved member of our family. The appointment tomorrow will cost a minimum of $230, and that just covers the exam and x-rays. If medication is needed (which we're sure it will be), it will increase the price to as much as $400. We are asking for $600 to help with follow-up care, and anything unforeseen that could happen tomorrow.
My husband is the sole bread winner for our house, and we're barely making ends meet. I've recently been diagnosed with two very painful medical issues, and I am unable to contribute to our income.
Ziggy is the sweetest boy. I know all dog owners say that about their dogs, but Ziggy truly is the most affectionate, kind, snuggly boy ever. He loves to lick hands and feet (yuck!), he loves to lay in my lap, he loves being scratched behind the ears, and he loves to snack on fresh veggies. We would just be devastated if he was no longer here.
If you are able, please help us. Even sharing the fundraiser would be helpful.
