Help Zhariyah get to 2023 World Sumo Tournament!!!
I am the mother of Zhariyah “Zeus” Whittington, a 16-year-old athlete living in Houston, Texas. Recently on March 11th, 2023, Zeus competed in her first official sumo tournament at the U.S. Sumo Nationals in Orlando, Florida. She was so excited and did so well. We are very proud of her for what she was able to do (1st place in Jr Light Weight, 3rd in Woman’s Light Weight, 2nd in North America Light Weight, and 3rd in North America open weight).
She has a background in folk & Greco-style wrestling and everyone who medaled at the tournament said she has a bright future as a competitor. By getting 1st place in her weight class, she has EARNED the right to represent the USA at the World Championships in Tokyo, Japan which will be in October of this year (2023).
Unfortunately, this is where the problem comes in. Unfortunately, Team USA is not able to cover all the expenses and we have to cover most of the expenses ourselves. When we realized this, we weren’t sure if we could go to Japan for Zeus to represent our country. But after weeks of thinking and long talks, we finally realized that we had to start an effort at fundraising. This would really mean so much to my daughter and I. All of the money would go towards flights, lodging, meals, equipment, and any other fees that may need to be paid along the way.
We are so grateful for any donation you can provide, or if you could even just share that would help so much too. We are in this together because even as of right now we are doing everything we can to save and save and save. Thank you so much for taking the time to read this and helping out in any way that you can.
Thank you
