Help Zeus Recover from a Mountain Goat Attack
Donation protected
What started as a beautiful, challenging hike turned into a life-threatening emergency for our dog, Zeus.
I love giving Zeus the freedom to explore and be a true mountain dog, and most days it’s pure joy. That morning, we came across some mountain goats, and the interaction seemed calm — I underestimated how dangerous they can be.
As I was grabbing a snack from my bag before our descent, Zeus started moving toward the goats. One suddenly charged, and they butted heads. I screamed, and the goat bolted — but the damage was done.
Zeus began limping immediately. When I picked him up, he was wheezing, and I could feel air escaping from the side of his body. I made a sling from my hoodie and leash to hold him tight against me, sealing the wound as best I could.
Alex met us on the last stretch and rushed us to the emergency vet. The diagnosis: a punctured lung and a damaged trachea. He’s now in surgery so the team can open his chest, assess the damage, and repair his lung. The estimate is $12,000–$15,000.
We love this little guy more than words — he’s our family. Any help toward his medical care would mean the world to us.
**Update on Zeus **
We are so relieved and grateful to share that Zeus’ surgery was a success. His lung has been repaired, and a trachea tube was placed to help with the puncture wound.
The best news — all the signs after surgery are looking great! He’s stable, strong, and showing positive progress. We’re feeling hopeful and encouraged as he continues his recovery.
Thank you all for your love and support through this scary time. It truly means the world to us.
