Help Zeus Receive His Eye Surgery
Hi everyone. My name is Sarah, I'm 18 years old and this is my beautiful bulldog puppy, Zeus. My whole life I have begged my mother to allow me to get a dog. For years and years she always answered with 'no', she never allowed me to have my own little dog companion in my life. After years of convincing, she finally let me get a dog, yet under one condition; he is fully my responsibility and nobody else's, including the financial responsibilities that come with owning a dog. I agreed to this and before getting him I made sure I was mentally and financially capable of taking care of him, and I was. Zeus is now 7 months old, and I've had him for 4 months. He is the biggest ball of fun, and he is such a cuddle monster!
In the first month of having him in my life, everything was going very smooth. He was doing very well in his training and his vets said that he is very healthy for a bulldog. That was until I noticed one day that he had a red bulge coming out of his left eye. I was so scared and rushed to the vet immediately. My vet told me he has a condition called cherry eye, and that he may need surgery for it if it gets worse, he told me this case was unlikely to happen.
However, a couple of weeks later, his other eye started to pop out as well, and they became redder and more irritated everyday. It came to a point where he couldn't even open his eyes. It broke my heart.
I knew Zeus needed surgery at this point. I took him to the vet and his eye surgery went well. Zeus had a speedy recovery and I was relieved to know that my little baby wouldn't experience the same discomfort again. Melbourne also was not in lockdown at this time, so I was able to afford his surgery comfortably.
That was until I realised that his eyes started to look the same as they did before his surgery... they started to swell again and become extremely bloodshot. The vet had told me that his third eyelid glands had in fact re-prolapsed, and he will need another surgery.
I live in Melbourne, and we are now in our 6th lockdown as a state due to COVID. I have been unable to work for 3 weeks, and due to other lockdowns, I have been unable to work for months. The fact of the matter is, bills still come out yet I'm not making any income. I've had to fork out of my savings to pay my bills and feed my beautiful dog Zeus. I've asked my family for money, but they continue to remind me of the deal I made with them when getting Zeus. With lockdown just being extended another 2 weeks, that is 2 weeks worth of wages gone to pay for Zeus' eye surgery so that he can be on his way to having a healthy eyesight again.
The vets have told me that if I prolong Zeus' surgery date, his eyesight can start to decrease and the moisture levels in his eyes will also decrease, causing him major discomfort and pain in his eyes. There is nothing worse than seeing your dog in need and knowing you are unable to help them.
I brought Zeus into my life knowing I will be able to care for him financially, but due to these unexpected lockdowns, that is sadly no longer the case.
His 2nd surgery for his eyes is $2100. Please help Zeus be able to see clearly again. I know he will give virtual cuddles to every single person who donates and shares this with friends and family!
Thank you so much.
