Zeus is a 2-year-old husky who is alive today by nothing short of a miracle, and because strangers chose compassion.
Zeus was very often seen running loose along busy NE 94th Ave. near Padden Parkway in Vancouver, WA. This time, he wasn't so lucky. Zeus was struck by a car and left badly injured and terrified. In his panic and pain, he wedged himself underneath a parked vehicle, making it impossible to reach him safely. Zeus was terrified and coughing up blood- not understanding what had just happened to him.
That's when something incredible happened. One by one, neighbors and complete strangers stopped to help. In total, six people stayed with Zeus, refusing to leave him alone. The sheriff's office and first responders arrived and worked together to jack up the car so he could be rescued. It was truly heartwarming to witness so many people coming together for one injured dog who had no one else.
Despite being terrified and in pain, Zeus showed just how gentle he is. He never tried to bite—he only needed help.
At the veterinary clinic, we received news that felt like a miracle: Zeus has no broken bones. However, he suffered serious internal injuries, including thoracic bruising, a concussion, blood in his lungs, and air trapped around his lungs in his chest cavity—making it extremely difficult for him to breathe. The blood and air were not able to resolve on their own. Zeus needed to have the air around his lungs surgically removed and intensive care to recover.
Tragically, Zeus's owner was unable to afford any treatment and planned to take him home without any care against the doctor's medical advice. After much conversation, the owners agreed to relinquish Zeus to us so he could receive the medical attention he desperately needs.
We are now fostering Zeus and fully responsible for his veterinary care. He is safe, loved, and finally being given a chance to heal.
Zeus survived the accident. He survived the fear. And thanks to the kindness of strangers, he now has hope to survive.
All donations will go directly toward Zeus's medical treatment, monitoring, and recovery. Every contribution—no matter the size—helps give this sweet boy the second chance he deserves. If you can't donate, please consider sharing his story
Thank you for being part of Zeus's miracle.
