Hi there- This is Laura, Toni and Rachel. We could really use your help to save Zephyr’s life. On 4/04 we found him dumped in our complex (after being out all night). We managed to get him safely into Rachel’s garage and unbeknownst to us sent him off to go die.
He was chipped, but the deadbeat on the number told the shelter they had the wrong number. He was locked in a small crate without walks, on stray hold for 8 days! Day one of releasing him from stray hold (4/13) he is immediately put on a rescue ONLY release. Day two (4/14) and he now has a kill date of 4/25.
He has Entropion in his left eye and needs surgery. (His eyelids are growing inward instead of outward. Basically his lashes are constantly scratching his eye) The shelter says it’s inhumane to keep him in pain, yet they won’t do the surgery themself! We are assuming that needing this expensive surgery is why his owner dumped him. We have secured someone willing to front the cost of his surgery and a couple possible fosters for him, but the shelter will not release him to us since we are not a rescue. We would have never called for help if we knew this was the “help” we were getting. The three of us are at a complete loss right now. Defeated is an understatement.
We have been quoted his surgery will be around $5k. Our goal is to try to fund as much as possible so our generous donor does not have to come completely out of pocket. If there happens to be any remaining/exceeding donations, we will be donating it to a rescue (hopefully whatever rescue helps us take in Zephyr!).
Money is only half the problem here. We also need a rescue that is willing to step in and take Zephyr. Any connections are GREATLY appreciated!! Time is rapidly ticking.
Zypher is at the Contra Costa County Animal Shelter at 4800 Imhoff in Martinez, CA. He is ONLY available to Rescue Groups.
Thank you so much for even reading Zephyr’s story this far. He has SO many more years of love to give.
Thank you so much,
Laura, Toni, Rachel & Zephyr
