Hi, my name is Erin. I’m Zelda’s mom. She’s a beautiful 13 year old girl with diabetes and teeth that can no longer be ignored. She’s in need of extractions at the same time that I personally am in need of dental surgery. Hers will cost significantly more than mine thanks to the Canadian Dental Benefit. I will owe $800 for mine. Hers is going to cost $4000. I used to not worry about money but the pandemic radically changed my industry and now we live paycheque to paycheque. I will put her needs before my own as I’m currently not in pain. But she is.
Having her dental done could even make her diabetes more manageable, or non existent. Diabetes in cats is heavily affected by dental health. My hope is that not only will she be comfortable again, but that her insulin needs will reduce as well, making her ongoing care even a little bit more affordable.
She still has a lot of life left in her. Aside from this, she’s a spry, sweet girl who was still chasing toys until a few days ago. Without treatment her health will decline and we will have to put her down. Any amount of help to make her needs more doable would mean the world to my son, myself, and Zelda’s fur brothers Fitz and Kenai. She’s the queen of the house and we’d be devastated to lose her.
