Zeke is my four-year-old French Bulldog, and he’s truly the heart of my home. About a year ago, I took Zeke in because someone else couldn’t care for him. We didn’t know he had IVDD—a degenerative disc disease that can be so tough on dogs like him—until he had his first flare up while in my care. With medication, months of red laser therapy, physical therapy, and acupuncture, we got through it together. He bounced back to his playful self, always chasing his favorite ball and bringing so much joy to everyone around him.
But this past Tuesday, everything changed. Zeke had a sudden, severe flare up of IVDD. In just a few hours, he lost the use of his legs and bladder control. We’ve been back and forth to the emergency vet, and I’ve spent thousands trying to help him. The vets say he urgently needs an MRI and possibly surgery—his best chance to walk again and live the happy, active life he loves. The sooner we act, the better his chances. I can’t imagine Zeke not being able to chase his ball or run around like he used to.
I’m a 21-year-old student and a new homeowner, and my parents aren’t in the picture. I’ve done everything I can for Zeke, but I can’t do this alone. I’ve even reached out to rescues, but they’re full, and I can’t bear the thought of giving him up. Please, if you can, help me give Zeke the best chance at a full, happy life. Any support means the world to us. Thank you for reading and for caring about Zeke.
