Hello! My name is Zeina El Madani. I'm from Lebanon but I'm currently residing in Tanzania. I'm a boarding student on a full scholarship at UWC East Africa and I will be graduating this year and hopefully starting my journey to university.
With a lot of hard work and perseverance, I was accepted to the University of Rochester. This opportunity will allow me to access better education than in Lebanon and will allow me to pave my path towards a better future for myself and my family. This a chance for me to pursue my passions and so I plan to double major in Communications and Media and Psychology.
Luckily, I was able to secure a full scholarship to the University of Rochester in New York, United States. However, the scholarship only covers tuition, room, and boarding and doesn't cover flight tickets, visa expenses, books and supplies, and pocket money, which is a big sum of money that my parents cannot cover due to the economic situation in Lebanon.
For the past three years, Lebanon has been battling with economic crises. The inflation rate has increased significantly to 189.6% inflation rate. The prices and the dollar exchange rate has gone up and has become 5 times more than what they initially were ($1 was equal to 1500 LBP but is now equivalent to 130,000 LBP and it continues to increase every day). This has made it a struggle for my family to even afford basic necessities as their income lost its value due to this economic crisis.
I can't express how grateful I would be for any assistance you could provide. Your generosity will enable me to achieve my dreams, and I will always remember the kindness you showed me. Thank you for taking the time to read my story and please consider donating to help me on this journey. Even a small sum will make a difference.
Note: the money would be used during the four years for flight tickets, visa expenses, laptop, pocket money and taxes on my scholarship that the university does not cover.
