Help Zaya Fight FIP

Donation protected
A few weeks ago, my 1-year-old Zaya was diagnosed with FIP, a usually fatal and (previously) untreatable disease that aggressively attacks the vital organs, brain, and eyes. Within a few days, Zaya went entirely blind and lost a nearly a third of her body weight. She was lethargic and largely immobile, and her pupils were dilated and cloudy with fluid. The vet suggested putting her down, and I considered it early on. I really didn't want her to deteriorate and suffer.

Thankfully, after an all-nighter of teary-eyed internet sleuthing, I stumbled upon a new experimental drug that has proven highly effective for many cats. I found a thriving community of thousands of cat owners who shared overwhelmingly positive experiences with this unapproved medicine. Without overthinking, I decided to go all-in and give the drug a try as a desperate last-resort measure.

Within 8 days of the first dose, Zaya had fully regained her eyesight as if by miracle. The cloudiness in her eyes had suddenly vanished, she was able to move without hitting her head on furniture, and her appetite and energy levels increased significantly. I'm so glad to report that after having completed 30 out of the 84-day course of this medication, Zaya's condition seems to be stable and improving daily. I am overjoyed and grateful beyond words. I don't have to part ways with my best friend.

Unfortunately, due to this medication's similarity to some experimental COVID-19 drugs (and its unknown effects on humans), its development in the pharmaceutical community was slowed to a halt. As a result, this unofficial drug is almost prohibitively expensive. I have used up the entirety of my savings on numerous vet visits and have been spending virtually all of our income on the pills themselves. However, I am still having a lot of trouble paying for Zaya's treatment, even with help from family. I am downgrading my housing and cutting various costs to save as much as possible.

My funding goal will be enough to cover the last 20 days, or ~1/4th, of her nominal 84-day medication regimen, and 2 routine vet visits to measure a handful of crucial diagnostics in her blood.

I feel nervous and guilty asking for your help, especially given the hardship of the pandemic and the multitude of global and local causes that are so worthy of charity.  Regardless, I would deeply appreciate your support if it is not burdensome. It would go so far in healing my beautiful Zaya, who means worlds to me.

In the unlikely event that Zaya passes away unexpectedly, I will donate any unused funds in support of the humanitarian crisis in Yemen and the Black Lives Matter movement.

I appreciate your kindness and generosity.

Thank you,
Zafar
